Suspension Magnets  Print |  E-mail

Master Magnets have increased their range of Suspension Magnets over the years to cater for the ever-increasing size of conveyors, deeper troughing and conveyor speeds. Master Magnets can offer customers two types of Suspension Magnet, dependant on specific applicational details. The units are available as either electro or permanent  magnets.

Suspension Magnets are specifically designed for the extraction of occasional tramp iron from a product stream being conveyed by a conveyor belt or  vibratory feeder. The magnet is generally suspended above a conveyor with sling chains setting the magnet face at the correct angle for optimum extraction. An Electro Suspension Magnet is repositioned away from the conveyor and de-energised for cleaning. A Permanent Suspension Magnet can be suspended from a travelling trolley so that it can be moved away from the conveyor to be manually cleaned.

Applications

Suspension Magnets can be used in a wide variety of applications for the removal of occasional tramp iron.

Typical Examples of applications are;

  • Removal of ferrous in mining operations.
  • Separation of ferrous contamination in quarries.
  • Magnetic extraction of ferrous particles in wood processing.

Models

Master Magnets can supply suspension magnets to operate over 450mm - 2000mm conveyor belt widths. If the belt width is below 450mm Master Magnets would recommend a Plate Magnet as a more cost-effective solution.

Electro and permanent suspension magnets are available. These consist of a tri-polar design with core, poles and backbar in high permeability mild steel. The tri-polar design has some significant advantages.

  • Reduces magnetic leakage.
  • Achieves a slightly better extraction.

The electro suspension magnet can be either air or oil cooled. An oil cooled magnet is fitted with conservator tank to ensure that the coil is always oil immersed. The magnet is also complete with breather and sight glass.

Optional Extras

Suspension magnets can be accompanied by a geared trolley that can be provided to allows the magnet to be moved aside from the conveyor for the manual removal of ferrous materials.
